If you’ve ever wondered what a memory blanket actually is, the answer is simple: it’s a blanket made from clothes that mean the most to you. Baby grows, favourite t-shirts, jumpers, pyjamas, all stitched together into something soft, comforting and completely personal.
A lot of families choose blankets because they’re practical as well as meaningful. A bear or bunny is lovely to sit on a shelf, but a blanket is something you can curl up under, keep on the sofa, or fold neatly at the end of a bed. It’s warmth and memory in one.
The reasons people order them are always different. Some mums want a way to keep all those tiny baby clothes that feel impossible to part with. Others come from families who’ve lost someone and want a way to keep their favourite clothes close by. I’ve had people tell me it feels like getting a hug from someone they miss. And honestly, I think that sums it up perfectly.
When I make a blanket, I use a super soft cuddle fleece on the back in grey, white, pale blue or pale pink, so it feels extra cosy. The front is made up of your clothing pieces, cut and pieced together in a patchwork design. You don’t need perfect, brand-new fabrics. In fact, the little worn patches and faded logos are usually the parts that hold the most meaning.
How many clothes you’ll need depends on the blanket size, but I’ll guide you through that when you order. For example, a baby-sized blanket might need around 18–20 newborn items, while an adult throw needs fewer items but bigger pieces. The important thing is that every square tells a story.
The end result isn’t just a blanket, it’s something you’ll reach for on the days you want comfort, or when you just want to feel close to those memories again. That’s why memory blankets are one of the most loved keepsakes I make.
If you’ve been holding onto clothes and wondering what to do with them, a memory blanket might be just the thing. You can see the different sizes I make and find out how many items you’ll need for each one here: blankets .
